The Sacraments

People are encouraged to celebrate the Baptism of their child(ren) with their local Parish. In our Parish we celebrate Baptisms on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 10.30am (EXCEPT during LENT).

Baptism is a most important commitment and therefore Parents are expected to prepare properly for it. We EXPECT that parents would study the “Baptism Booklet” accessed by the link below, go to the “Archdiocese of Brisbane Website” (accessed by another link), watch the video and study the questions and answers provided. Finally, complete the “Baptism Application Form” (link below) fully.

If you have any questions we welcome a phone call or email and we will try to help you the best we can. You will need to ring the parish before you book a date for the Baptism of your child so we can inform you of its availability (don’t delay – we are often booked out months ahead).

Contact: Parish Office Ph: 3356 7155 or by email to   to ascertain available dates.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

The RCIA, also called the Catechumenate, is the process by which adult persons are brought into membership of the Roman Catholic Church.

In summary, the RCIA is:

  • A journey of faith.
  • A chance to discover more about who I am as a son or daughter of a gracious and loving God.
  • A time to reflect on what this relationship means to me and what it may ask of me.
  • An opportunity to come to know Jesus Christ.

Stafford Parish RCIA Team meetings are held once a month.   Special group meetings for all those involved in the RCIA are held several times a year.

If you need any more information ring Fr Denis at the Office, drop in or see him after Mass. Also, several times a year, relevant information regarding the RCIA appears in the Parish Bulletin.

Anointing of the Sick

The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of the Church for those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or old age. It is a source of healing for the sick rather than the final act of the church for the dying.

The Sacrament enables the sick or aged person to be anointed with the oil of the sick, to experience the healing and strength of Jesus Christ and to be supported by a praying community.

By Arrangement.
NOTE: Anointing is NOT the "last rites" but is more the "first" rites.
It is celebrated for Serious illness and at the onset of this illness or if there is a deterioration or a relapse. If you or a loved-one are going to have an operation, it would also be appropriate to be anointed so that the church can pray for healing and for the guidance of the Doctors and Nurses.

"Viaticum" which is the reception of Holy Communion is the "last rite" of the Church.

More information about anointing of the sick may be found on the Archdiocese of Brisbane website. Click here to view.....
